Dr. Joel Morton, President

Dr Joel Morton is the president of Summit Pharmacy, Inc. Dr Morton graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1988. He is a board-certified family physician and is fellowship-trained in sports medicine.

Dr Morton spent 15 months as the physician in charge of a busy workers compensation clinic in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. During this time Dr Morton had the opportunity to serve as an expert witness for injured workers. These experiences are invaluable to the services he renders to patients, clients, attorneys and physicians who work with Summit Pharmacy.

Dr Morton's training in sports medicine has given him the opportunity to care for many athletes at all levels of competition. He is the team physician for Greenway High School (Phoenix, AZ) and Glendale Community College (Glendale, AZ). He also cares for members of an active club-gymnastics team. Dr Morton is the primary-care physician for the Phoenix Mercury WNBA team and the Arizona Sting professional-lacrosse team. He also works with Major League Baseball’s Seattle Mariners during spring training and with the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes and the Arizona Rattlers arena-football team.

Dr Morton is a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force Reserves and was recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel. He has served approximately eight years of active duty and for the past four years he has been a member of the 944th Medical Squadron of the 944th Fighter Wing reserve unit. As an active duty member stationed in Okinawa Japan, Dr Morton was the medical clinic’s flight chief. There, he was in charge of the largest free-standing Air Force clinic, supervising eight physicians, eight physician assistants and three women's-health nurse practitioners. He also served as the physician in charge of many trans-Pacific medivac patients on their way to Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii.

As a flight surgeon in the Reserve, Dr Morton also assists in the care of the 302nd and 301st Fighter Squadrons, which are parts of the 944th Fighter Wing. He received his wings at the Aerospace Medicine Primary Course where he qualified to fly fighter jets. This training provided him with the opportunity to fly in the back seat of an F-16D fighter jet while on duty with the 302nd Fighter Squadron. As the squadron’s flight surgeon, Dr Morton regularly flies in the F-16 Viper.

From September to November 2005, Dr Morton was deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Squadron Medical Element Commander with the 332nd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron at the Balad Air Base in Iraq. Dr Morton had the privilege to serve with members of the 944th and 486th Fighter Wings as he operated a 24-hour-a-day flight-line medical clinic. There, he cared for F-16 fighter pilots, maintainers, intelligence officers, life-support personnel and administrative staff. He was directly concerned with the day-to-day health and welfare of the pilots. Dr Morton also flew with the 54th Army Medivac Squadron. He flew several medical missions with this Black Hawk helicopter squadron. Dr Morton is proud of his military service; for him, it has been a distinct privilege and honor to serve his country and his Constitution.

All of Dr Morton’s experiences, coupled with his dedication to patient care and quality service, provide the basis for what Summit Pharmacy stands for and what it promises to deliver.
