Dr. Joel Morton is the Medical Director of Summit Pharmacy, Inc. Dr. Morton graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1988. He is a board-certified family physician and is fellowship-trained in sports medicine.
As a practicing physician, Dr. Morton is inherently familiar with both the risks and rewards of treating patients in today’s environment. He is available as a ready resource for any on-going medical issue encountered in everyday medical and legal practice, especially in the field of pain management and opiod abuse. He consistently works alongside with and provides exceptional customer service to Summit Pharmacy’s patients, attorneys and physicians –and is willing to assist in whatever is necessary to get injured workers back to work, AND back to life.
Dr. Morton has been the physician in charge of a busy workers compensation clinic in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. During this time, and at other times during his career, Dr. Morton has had the opportunity to serve as an expert witness for injured workers. These experiences are invaluable to the services he renders to patients, clients, attorneys and physicians who work with Summit Pharmacy.
Dr. Morton’s training in sports medicine has given him the opportunity to care for many athletes at all levels of competition He has been the team physician for Greenway and Sunrise Mountain High Schools (Phoenix, AZ) and Glendale Community College (Glendale, AZ). He has cared for members of an elite club-gymnastics team.
Dr. Morton has also cared for many professional athletes, including members of the Phoenix Mercury (Women’s National Basketball Association), Arizona Sting (National Lacrosse League), Seattle Mariners (Major League Baseball) Phoenix Suns (National Basketball Association), Arizona Rattlers (Arena Football League), and the Phoenix Coyotes (National Hockey League).
Dr. Morton is a lieutenant colonel, flight surgeon in the United States Air Force Reserves. He has served more than eight years of active duty and over ten years of reserve duty. In that ten years, he has served as flight surgeon for the 944th Fighter Wing, 301st & 302nd Fighter Squadrons (F-16 Pilots), and Commander of the 44th Medical Flight serving as the flight surgeon for the 44th Fighter Group (F-22 pilots).
As an active duty physician stationed in Okinawa, Japan; Dr. Morton was flight chief of the medical clinic, supervising the largest free-standing Air Force clinic; with eight physicians, eight physician assistants and three women’s health nurse practitioners. He also served as Physician-in-Charge of many trans-Pacific Medivac patients on their way to Hickam Air Force Base,Hawaii.
From September to November 2005, Dr. Morton was deployed to Balad Air Base, Iraq, as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving as the Squadron Medical Element Commander with the 332nd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron.Dr. Morton had the privilege to serve with members of the 944th and 486th Fighter Wings as he operated a 24-hour-operations flight-line medical clinic. There, he cared for F-16 fighter pilots, maintainers, intelligence officers, life-support personnel and administrative staff, directly concerned with day-to-day health and welfare.
While serving in Iraq, Dr. Morton also flew several medical missions with the 54th Army Medivac Black Hawk Helicopter Squadron. Dr. Morton is proud of his military service, and considers it a a distinct privilege and honor to serve his country and his Constitution.
